Most commercial ginger honeys use artificial ginger flavouring - a synthetic chemical isolate that replicates the taste but carries none of the active properties of real ginger. Shahji uses natural ginger extract derived from real ginger. The difference is authentic ginger warmth and functional properties versus empty flavour.

Real honey crystallises because of its natural glucose content. Commercial honey is heated specifically to prevent this. Shahji honey is never heated - so it will crystallise over time, especially in cooler weather. To re-liquefy: place the jar in a bowl of warm water for 10 minutes. Never microwave.

Open Shahji Ginger Honey and the first thing you notice is the colour - a noticeably darker, richer amber than plain honey. The second thing is the aroma - unmistakably fresh ginger. Every new buyer asks the same question about both. Here is the answer:

The darker amber colour is natural - it comes directly from the natural ginger extract blended into the honey. Ginger contains yellow-orange pigments (curcuminoids) that carry through into the finished honey. No colouring agent is added. The slight variation in colour from batch to batch reflects the natural variation in the ginger extract - artificial colouring would be perfectly consistent every time. The natural variation is the proof.

The darker colour is the ginger extract. The warming sensation is the gingerols. Pure honey, real ginger extract, nothing artificial.

For children above 12 months, yes. The honey base is safe for children over one year and ginger in small quantities is a traditional remedy used for children in Indian households for generations. For children aged 1 to 5, half a teaspoon in warm water is a gentle and effective amount. Honey of any kind - including this product - should never be given to infants under 12 months due to the risk of infant botulism.
