"Cold-pressed almond oil is what was inside the almond - vitamins, fatty acids, mild sweetness. Refined almond oil is what remains after those compounds are removed."

Why Cold-Pressed Almond Oil - Specifically

Pure. Light. Vitamin-Rich. Nothing Added.

Sweet almond oil has been used in Ayurvedic practice for thousands of years - for infant massage, hair treatment, and skin nourishment. Its natural composition of oleic acid (~70%), linoleic acid, and vitamins A, B, and E makes it one of the most skin-compatible oils available. The problem is that most commercial almond oils are produced using hexane solvent extraction and then refined and deodorised - stripping the very compounds that make the oil valuable. Cold-pressed almond oil retains all of them. The oil you apply on your child's skin or your own face should be exactly what was in the almond - not a processed extract of it.

Zero Chemical Refining

Commercial refined mustard oil goes through solvent extraction with hexane, followed by high-temperature deodorising, bleaching, and neutralisation - processes that strip the oil of its natural compounds. Shahji kachi ghani uses only mechanical cold-pressing. Zero chemical refining. Zero solvents. What the press produces is what you receive.

No Hexane Solvents

Hexane is the standard industrial solvent for almond oil extraction - it maximises yield but requires high-temperature removal and trace residues may remain. Cold-pressing extracts oil through mechanical pressure only. No hexane at any stage. The oil you apply on your skin or your child's skin contains nothing that was not inside the almond.

Natural Vitamins A, B & E Intact

Sweet almond oil naturally contains vitamins A (skin repair), B2 and B6 (cell support), and E (antioxidant). These are heat-sensitive and degrade during refining. Cold-pressing at low temperature preserves them in the finished oil. This is the primary reason cold-pressed almond oil is preferred for skin and hair over refined alternatives.

Safe for Skin, Hair & Baby Massage

Cold-pressed almond oil is hypoallergenic and non-comedogenic - it absorbs into skin without clogging pores. It has been used in Ayurveda for infant massage for centuries. The same oil is safe for scalp massage, under-eye application, and direct skin use. It is also mild enough for light culinary use - salad dressings, baking, and finishing.

Cleaned. Cold-Pressed. Settled. Sealed.

Whole raw almonds are cleaned, then cold-pressed without heat or solvents. The oil is allowed to settle naturally, lab tested for purity, then sealed. What you receive is exactly what the press produces - nothing more, nothing less.

बादाम - Almond

Whole Raw Almonds · Cleaned

Whole raw sweet almonds are sourced and cleaned before pressing. No roasting, no pre-treatment, no chemical conditioning. Roasting would alter the oil's fatty acid profile and destroy heat-sensitive vitamins. The almonds go into the press raw - exactly as they came from the harvest.

कच्ची घाणी - Cold-Pressed

No Heat · No Hexane

Almonds are cold-pressed through a slow mechanical press - no heat generated, no hexane solvents used. The low-temperature extraction preserves the natural vitamins A, B and E, the natural oleic and linoleic acids, and the delicate mild sweet character of the oil. Heat and solvent extraction destroy these compounds. Cold-pressing does not.

स्थिरीकरण - Settling

Natural Settling · Unrefined

Freshly pressed oil settles naturally - fine almond particles sink while clear oil rises. No bleaching. No deodorising. No chemical refining. The natural pale-golden colour and mild sweet almond aroma are fully preserved. What settles is what gets bottled - with no stage at which character is stripped away.

परीक्षण - Testing

Lab Tested · Then Sealed

Every batch is sent for laboratory testing before dispatch - purity, adulteration (mineral oil dilution is a common adulterant in almond oil) and fatty acid profile confirmation. Certificate is available for every batch.

What You See in the Bottle

The Mild Sweetness Is the Proof.

Open Shahji Cold-Pressed Almond Oil and you notice a very faint, natural sweetness in the aroma - the smell of actual almonds, not a neutral processed oil. First-time buyers often ask whether this is normal. Here is the answer:

The faint almond sweetness in the aroma comes from the natural volatile compounds in raw sweet almonds - compounds that are removed during the deodorising stage of refined oil production. Cold-pressed almond oil retains them. The mild sweetness is the quality marker. Refined almond oil is odourless because those compounds were stripped. Cold-pressed almond oil is mildly aromatic because they were not. The same applies to the vitamins - if the oil was refined, the vitamins were removed. If it was cold-pressed, they are still present.

Frequently asked questions

Is cold pressed almond oil edible or only for hair and skin?

Yes - our cold pressed almond oil is food-grade and suitable for consumption. This is one of the most common misconceptions about almond oil because many brands market it primarily for cosmetic use. Shahji Almond Oil is extracted from sweet almonds and can be used in cooking, smoothies, desserts, and salad dressings, while also being suitable for hair and skin care. One bottle can serve both purposes.

How is cold pressed almond oil different from refined almond oil?

Refined almond oil is typically processed using heat and chemical refining to create a uniform appearance and longer shelf life. Cold pressed almond oil is extracted through mechanical pressure alone, with no heat or solvents used. This helps preserve the oil's natural aroma, flavour, and naturally occurring vitamins. The result is an oil that remains much closer to the almond itself.

Can I cook with cold pressed almond oil?

Yes. Cold pressed almond oil is suitable for everyday cooking, baking, sautéing, and salad dressings. Its naturally mild, slightly nutty flavour complements food without overpowering it. While it can handle normal cooking temperatures, many customers prefer using it in low to medium heat cooking to preserve its delicate flavour profile.

Can cold pressed almond oil be applied to hair and skin?

Yes. Almond oil has been traditionally used for hair massage and skin care for generations. Its smooth texture makes it suitable for scalp massage, body massage, and moisturising dry skin. Because our oil is cold pressed and free from chemical solvents, many customers choose to use the same bottle for both personal care and culinary purposes.

Does cold pressed almond oil smell like almonds?

Yes, but naturally and subtly. Genuine cold pressed almond oil retains a mild sweet almond aroma because it has not been deodorised during refining. The fragrance is delicate and natural rather than strong or artificially scented. A completely odourless almond oil has usually been heavily processed.

Is cold pressed almond oil extracted without chemicals?

Yes. Our almond oil is extracted using mechanical cold pressing only. No hexane, chemical solvents, bleaching agents, or deodorising treatments are used during production. The oil is naturally settled, tested, and bottled with minimal processing.

Why is cold pressed almond oil more expensive than regular cooking oils?

Almond oil is one of the most premium oils because almonds themselves are significantly more expensive than mustard, groundnuts, or sunflower seeds. In addition, cold pressing yields relatively little oil from each kilogram of almonds compared to industrial extraction methods. The higher price reflects both the quality of the raw material and the careful extraction process.
